What is Aggregation?

Aggregation is when a group of customers in a community (households and small businesses) join together to form a single, larger customer that buys energy for its members. A large buying group may be able to get a better price and/or contract terms for the group members than you can get on your own.

Ohio's laws allow for communities – such as townships, villages, cities and counties – to form aggregated buying groups on behalf of their citizens. The governmental aggregator chooses an outside supplier for all of the customer-members in its group. Aggregations can be formed to buy natural gas, electricity or both.

All governmental aggregators (including brokers and the community itself) must be certified by the PUCO to buy electric or natural gas. If an aggregator is going to provide natural gas and/or electric buying services, it must be certified separately for each of those services.

Why EAI?

Experts in the Field

The Energy Alliances team assists dozens of communities with their aggregation programs and achieved price stability for the residents and small businesses. Savings have totaled in the millions. Our 30 plus years of experience is the reason we are the preferred choice.

What are the benefits of aggregation?

Competitive Prices - The biggest benefit aggregation can bring to residents and small businesses is the potential for more competitive prices. Based on results to date, customers have generally secured savings when compared to their utility's current rate. Note: Results are dependent upon the specific utility, rate class, contract term and energy market conditions.

Stability - On top of competitive pricing, aggregation also provides the ability for long term budget stability by fixing the rates for a period of one year or more. Our natural gas programs also offer market-based choices or a more flexible price option that provides protection when you need it most – during the volatile winter months.

Peace of Mind - Don't be misled by door-to-door salespeople and pushy telemarketers who hide their motives by misleading residents on price or who they actually represent. Being part of an opt-out aggregation programis a simple and safe alternative. Energy Alliances manages more than 60 individual natural gas and electric community aggregation programs in dozens of communities in Ohio.

Our approach minimizes your workload. The Energy Alliances team has the expertise to handle the process from pre-ballot to energy flow, everything necessary to implement and manage a successful governmental aggregation program. Because of our success rate, Energy Alliances is the preferred choice of community leaders when considering an aggregation program for their residents and small businesses.
