Aggregation FAQs
+ What is Aggregation?
An aggregation is when a group of customers in a community (households and small businesses) join together to buy energy. A larger buying group may be able to secure a better price and/or contract terms and conditions than each individual could do on their own.
To create an aggregation program, majority of voters in a community must pass a ballot issue authorizing the community leaders to move forward with the aggregation process. After the ballot issue passes, the community leaders then develop a Plan of Operation.
+ How do I know if my community has a program?
The best place to look would be on your community’s website. The following link will take you to a list of communities Energy Alliances support: https://energyalliances.com/communities
+ How do I find out if I'm currently on the aggregation program?
The fastest way to find out is actually looking at your own utility bill!
You'll want to go to the page that breaks down all your energy charges in detail. You'll want to look for a line item that mentions "Supplier Charges" or something similar to that. If you see that then you are with an alternative supplier. You can compare the rate on your bill to the rates on your communities page, https://energyalliances.com/communities. If they don't match, reach out to us and we'll be able to help you figure out your next steps!
+ I previously opted out of the program. Can I opt-in?
Yes. You can opt-in to your communities aggregation at any time as long as there are more than 60 days left in the program!
+ Who is Not Eligible?
• Anyone currently under contract with a retail supplier for the desired commodity they would like enrolled in the aggregation. Example: If you have a contract with an electric supplier, you would need to cancel your agreement with that supplier before attempting to enroll in your community electric aggregation.
• Anyone who is on Percentage of Income Payment Program (PIPP)
• Anyone behind on energy bill payments
• Any business that uses more than 700,000 kWh annually
+ Who is Eligible?
Any resident or small business owner within the community boundaries, who does not fit the criteria of the “Not Eligible” piece above.
+ How do I enroll?
If you’d like to enroll, give us a call at (513) 794-5555 or chat with us on our website.
+ Could I join an aggregation for just natural gas or just electric?
Yes, if both natural gas and electric are offered in your community then you may join the aggregation for just natural gas, just electric, or both natural gas and electric.
+ What is the cost to enroll?
There is no cost to enroll.
+ What information is needed to enroll?
All we need from you is your name, account number, and the address you would like to enroll.
+ How long will it take for my enrollment to take effect?
Enrollments typically takes one to two billing cycles to complete.
+ Will the aggregation supplier come to my door?
The supplier of the aggregation will never come to your door! Let us repeat...THE AGGREGATION SUPPLIER WILL NEVER COME TO YOUR DOOR! If someone comes to your door and say they are part of the aggregation program, they are lying!
+ What changes should I expect in my service?
The only difference you will notice is in your rate. Your local utility continues to deliver energy and services to your home or business. Electricity and natural gas flow the same as they always do and you will see the same level of service for maintenance and repairs.
+ Will I lose energy service if I switch?
No. To report service problems, a gas leak, billing problems, meter reading, estimated readings, repair issues, and budget payment plan amounts, you will still call your local utility.
+ What if I do not want to participate?
Every eligible customers will receive an opt-out notice by mail providing at least 21 days to opt-out of the program. The notice will provide the rates and other terms and conditions. If you do nothing, you will automatically be enrolled in the program.
You may choose to opt-out, or not participate, by either returning an enclosed opt-out card or by calling a toll-free telephone number.
The PUCO has established a permanent "do not aggregate" list for electric consumers. Information may be found at: https://puco.ohio.gov/utilities/electricity/resources/electric-do-not-aggregate-list.
As a courtesy, our suppliers also maintain their own "mail exclude" or "do-not-aggregate" lists. Please call us at 513-794-5555 for details.
