Receive a Letter from Direct Energy ABOUT REFUND?
If you received a letter from Direct Energy stating that you are owed a refund, the letter is legitimate. Some Township residents were enrolled in the electric aggregation program one month early. Direct Energy was scheduled to replace Constellation as the aggregation supplier beginning with the June bill, but some accounts were switched in May. As a result, those residents paid Direct Energy's higher rate in May instead of remaining on Constellation's lower, expiring rate for one more month. To correct the error, Direct Energy will mail each affected account holder a check for the difference between the amount paid to Direct Energy and the amount that would have been paid to Constellation for May. This issue affected only that one month; the aggregation rate during the summer was much lower than Duke's rate, so program participants still saved money overall.
