Electric Aggregation Update
Sycamore Township did not renew its electric aggregation program before it expires in May because of concerns it might not be cheaper than Duke's default rates. Residents currently in the program will receive a notice from Duke informing them that they will be switched back to Duke's default rate.
Prices have dropped significantly in recent days, so the Township signed a new agreement with Dynegy. Starting in June (reflected on the July bill), the new rate will be 9.23¢ per kWh and will continue through the June 2026 bill.
Duke's rates reset every June, and their new rate is expected to be 9.7¢ per kWh or higher. Although the new aggregation rate is an increase from the previous aggregation rate, it is still expected to offer savings compared to Duke's default rate.
Opt-Out letters for the new program will be sent out in late April. If you receive the letter and want to stay in the program, you don't need to take any action. If you do not want to be part of the program, follow the instructions in the letter. Those already using a third-party supplier will not receive a letter and will not be included in the program.
